Deadly Atlantic Storm Parallels US Coast

"NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) - Hurricane Noel, the deadliest storm to hit
the Atlantic this year, paralleled the U.S. coast on Friday, losing strength as
it headed north towards Nova Scotia.Noel slammed the Caribbean earlier this week
with heavy rains that caused flooding and mudslides, leaving 118 dead, officials
said. After drenching the Bahamas and Cuba on Thursday, the Category 1
hurricane's sustained winds were at 80 mph on Friday and its center was about
425 miles south of Cape Hatteras, N.C., the U.S. National Hurricane Center in
Miami said. Noel is moving to the north-northeast at about 17 mph, but was
expected to pick up speed.Jack Beven, a hurricane specialist at the center, said
Friday that "we don't expect the center to cross the U.S. coast. The track would
take the center of the system over Nova Scotia."But Beven also noted that the
storm "is going to increase rather significantly in size" and that its effects
could be felt in the U.S. Forecasters say 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall in
North Carolina's Outer Banks, while isolated areas of New England might see 6
inches. On Thursday, muddy rain-swollen waters overflowed a dam in Cuba, washing
into hundreds of homes, over highways and knocking out electricity and telephone
service. Dozens of small communities were cut off.Cuban soldiers went
door-to-door in low-lying areas and evacuated about 24,000 people, according to
state radio and television reports. At least 2,000 homes were damaged by flood
waters, but there was no official word of deaths. In Ciego de Avila province in
central Cuba, flooding wiped out nearly 2,000 tons of corn, potato, banana,
cucumber and tomato harvests, said Jose Ramon Machado Ventura, a vice
president. The storm brought a record 15 inches of rain to the Bahamas, Prime
Minister Hubert Ingraham said. Flooding killed at least one man in the Bahamas
and forced the evacuation of almost 400 people. Ingraham said the majority of
the evacuees were from the northeast Bahamian island of Abaco."

Hurricanes can be deathly and very dangerous. They are destructive and ruin thousands of innocent peoples homes. This hurricane Noel swiped through the Bahamas. Many were killed and homes were ruined by rain, mudslides, and floods. Being in a hurricane, having first hand account it is very scary. This summer I went to Mexico , when the first hurricane of the year decided to hit, Dean. Of course I was scared and unsure of what to do since back in New Jersey hurricanes are not heard of. So like all the natives to Mexico, we had to learn what to do. Our hotel was boarded up and this got us nervous so we decided to rent a car and drive South. Little did we know 5 hours in that the hurricane was now headed toward us. So we stayed a night at a hotel, turned around and headed back to our hotel. We were boared up in a room with alot of people, a bag of food and a water. We had to stick it out through the hurricane and hope for a flight out as soon as possible. Luckly for us, it ended up passing by a little bit so we were a little safer then others and we got out the next day. I could only imagine being flooded though and having to go through what many people do all the time with hurricanes. It is a very scary thought.

California is on fire.

The news has been covered with the California fire. Over 1500 houses have been destroyed due to theese wild fires. People have been chased out of their homes and forced to evacauate. It seems almost absurd that such a fire could not be stopped and cause so much destruction over 100's of acres in California. The governor Arnold Schwarzenegger watched the fires blaze throughout California and worried for the lives of all those in danger. AOL news has an article claiming the cost to the fire which is already a billion dollars. The article is as follows:

Wildfire Losses May Top $1 Billion

California officials begin tallying
damages from wildfires that have triggered the biggest evacuation in state
history. Meanwhile, President Bush takes action to get funds to people who have
suffered losses. The New York Times looks at how Hurricane Katrina has shaped
the White House response.More Coverage: An Expensive Disaster

Love Pink

On Sunday is the annual Breast Cancer walk. Every year I usuually walk down where i live, in New Jersey. This year i am still walking but just up here in Staten Island. My best friend, Andrea, lost her mother 6 years ago to the horrible disease of breast cancer. It spreads through your lymphnodes, which are located under the armpit creating more and more cancer cells. Her mothers fought breast cancer for 5 years and lost her sister during the process as well. She was diagnosed along with her mother, and two sisters. Her and her sister passes away, while her other sister and mother survived and battled breast cancer. I walk to honor Andrea's mother Mary, and her sister who passed. Even though i may not have been there while they were battling their disease i fight in honor for them and the thousands out there who are infected or lost their lives. So this Sunday, come out, wear pink and support those lost and loved with breast cancer<3

Expensive Phone Bill

Well lucky for me, my phone bill wasnt the normal $80.00 it was $450.00!!!!! I wanted to freak out. I went to Mexico in August and my phone was supposidly on "international mode" but really it wasnt. So i was using my phone away not realizing each text was costing me .50 cents per text. Thinking i was in the clear of a not so expensive phone bill, i recieved my first bill. It was 100.00 i said okay, few extra dollars for minutes. Then i get my next bill 2 days ago, and its $450.00. I was very very very unhappy! So i called verizon right up flipped out, because i thought my phone bill was international to find out it was never changed over. So after all that i got a $100.00 credit and i still owe verizon $350.00! DONT use your cells out of the US they will rob you!

My big sister

As the only child, well in this country anyways (because i have a half brother and sister in Italy i do not see much, only when i go to Italy) I never had a big sister. I have always wanted a big brother or big sister and I GOT ONE! yay. Recently I have joined a sorority, Phi Eta Chi which stands for Faith, Education and Charity. Here I have begun some of the best times of my life. I have been honored to have a big sister named Lauren. She is such a sweet and caring woman, and I love being around her. Even though being in a sorority is sterotyped to have a good time and meet people that is not all it is about. You begin to form bonds with girls you want in your life forever. Everyone is so caring and loving and wants to be there for anything you may need. It is such a sense of ease, especially in college not knowing anyone you have a group of wonderful ladies there with open arms. It has been a insirational memorable experience already and I cant wait for many more memories to come <3

Who wants to go into space?

Today on aol welcome there where a bunch of articles and I found this caption to be quite interesting:

The Wright Brothers, Sputnik ...
What's Next?

Posted Oct 5th 2007 6:00PM by Mo Rocca
"It's a big week for
anniversaries of airborne objects: 102 years ago - on October 5, 1905 - the
Wright Brothers made their first powered controlled flight. It happened outside
Dayton. (It also happened 10 days after my grandmother Mary Lanza was born. I'm
still bummed she didn't live to see her face on a jar of Smuckers, with Willard
Scott wishing her happy birthday.)50 years ago the Russians launched Sputnik,
the first artificial satellite in space. One of the most surprising things about
Sputnik was its small size.
"
The quetions leading after his article was "what should be put into space next? I was very curious to find out what other people thought, because he is right we are so advanced in technology what could be next for our great universe out there? Some responses were the normal dog, or bad people, liars and cheaters, nicole richie and paris hilton, pizza, fries, and many more. So many answers were so crazy but who knows America would probably send anything just to make the papers. In my personal opinion I think we should send people from the jails in to space and leave them there. Most of them are there for rapes and murders lets get them out of here! They are just occupying jail space and have no purpose here. If you are crazy enough to kill someone or rape them you are crazy enough to get out of here! Lets get a rocket and send them away, quite far away actually!

A Memoir

A memoir is a first person written autobiography. It was less formal than an actual writing about someone else or something else it is written about yourself. A memoir is how people remember other peoples lives. It is shorter than an acutal autobiography that explains everyones entire life, it tends to capture the important points of a persons life. Sometimes memoirs can be emotional since emotion is sometimes the basis of a lot of our lives.
Writing a memoir would be valuable to me. I would like to express the most important aspects of my life in a "shorter" autobiography. I would not feel necessary to include every detail about me but just what makes me the person I am today. Some of my details could be negative or positive. Sometimes the best things in life come from negative times, or the best from positive. I will not exxagerate my ideas, because a memoir is supposed to have importance and real information in the context. I would include a lot of detail to express my points as being valid and important. In order to keep my ideas from drifting away from being false, I would try to brainstorm on ideas from my childhood, and how they impacted me and the person I am today. I would explain how as I grew into an adult what turned me in the right direction and why I do things I do in my everyday life now.

Eating, dancing, partying and soaking up beautiful weather and here I am here all alone. Im just a little upset! AND to add to them going away they come back on my birthday! My 19th birthday they dont even come back till late that night! O well. lonely week, lonely birthday, and NO cruise for me till I graduate! ahh many more years to be sad.
